Australia posted 269 runs with a loss of 10 wickets. Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav bagged 3 wickets each, while Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj shared 2 wickets.

Chasing 270 runs, Indian opener Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma came to bat and Mitchell Starc opened the bowling attack. Shubman Gill smashed the six on Mitchell Starc in the 3rd over and it was the first boundary of the match. In the 5th over, Shubman Gill smashed back-to-back two fours. In the 7th over, Shubman Gill hit a four on the fourth ball and Rohit smashed a six on the last ball. In the 8th over, Rohit hit two fours and India reached 50 runs. In the 10th over, Rohit got out after scoring 30(17) and it was the first wicket for Australia. After 10 overs, India was at 67-1.

In the 13th over, Shubman Gill got out after scoring 37(49) on the first ball. In the 18th over, Virat Kohli smashed two boundaries – one four and one six and India reached 100 runs. In the 27th over, KL Rahul smashed two boundaries. In the 28th over, KL Rahul got out after scoring 32(50) on the fifth ball. In the 29th over, India reached 150 runs and Axar ran out after scoring 2(4). After 30 overs, India was at 152-4.

In the 31st over, Virat Kohli took a single and scored a half-century and Hardik Pandya hit a six on the third ball. In the 36th over, Virat Kohli got out on the first ball after scoring 54(72) and Suryakumar Yadav got out for a duck on the next ball. In the 40th over, Hardik Pandya hit a four and India reached 200 runs. After 40 overs, India was at 204-6.

In the 44th over, Hardik Pandya got out after scoring 40(40) on the fourth ball. In the 46th over, Ravindra Jadeja got out after scoring 18(33) on the first ball. In the 48th over, Mohammed Shami smashed back-to-back two boundaries and got out after scoring 14(10) on the fifth ball. Kuldeep Yadav ran out in the 50th over, India scored 248-10 and lost the match by 21 runs.
