India vs Bangladesh Test 2, Day 1: Indian Bowlers Restrained Bangladesh at 227 Runs

India vs Bangladesh Test Series: India Shines With 188-Run Test Match Victory Against Bangladesh

Indian wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav recorded his greatest match haul of 8-113 as India defeated Bangladesh by a score of 188 runs in the first test to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

India amassed 404 runs in its first innings and had taken a 254-run advantage after dismissing Bangladesh for 150 runs,

Shubhman Gill, who started the game, scored his first century (110), and Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored his 19th test century (102 not out) and contributed 90 in the first innings, helped India declare a second-inning total of 258-2, setting Bangladesh up for a record 513-run chase.

As Bangladesh chased a massive total of 513 on Sunday, Kuldeep backed up his 5-40 in the first innings with 3-73 as Bangladesh was bowled out for 324.

When play resumed at 272-6 on the fifth day, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan launched a counterattack with 84 off 108, striking six fours and six sixes, but the hosts lost their final four wickets in less than an hour.

Of the 52 runs Bangladesh scored on the final day, Shakib alone accounted for 44. Mehidy Hasan was dismissed for 13 in the first over of the day by pacer Mohammed Siraj (1-67), destroying whatever aspirations Bangladesh might have had of extending the game onto the third day.

Shakib launched an attack against the spinners as his partners ran out, but he took one huge shot too many and was dismissed by Kuldeep. Taijul Islam (4) was taken out by left-arm spinner Axar Patel, who finished with 4-77, and Kuldeep completed the victory by dismissing Ebadot Hossain for a duck.

As part of a 124-run opening stand on Saturday, opener Zakir Hasan struck his first test century and Najmul Hossain added 67 to give Bangladesh a slim chance of winning the match. Later on Day 4, the hosts were defeated 6-114 as Kuldeep and Patel successfully reclaimed control firmly in India’s advantage.
