List of Upsets In T20 World Cup 2022

The T20 world cup 2022 was thrilling, and we witnessed too many upsets. Some teams get upset, while few teams somehow manage to win the match. The first team that got upset was Sri Lanka in the first match of the T20 world cup, and the last team was South Africa. These upsets raised a question and told us that these teams deserve more games.

Namibia Defeated Sri Lanka

In the first match of the T20 world cup, Sri Lanka was playing against Namibia and lost by 55 runs. It was the first upset of the T20 world cup.

Sri Lanka won the toss and was elected to the field. Namibia didn’t start well and lost the early wicket, but their middle order contributed, and in the end, Jan Frylinck played a heroic inning of 44 runs in 28 balls. Namibia scored 163 runs for 7 wickets and gave the target of 164 runs.

In response, the Sri Lankan opener didn’t do well and returned to the pavilion very early, and it continued. The Namibian bowler didn’t give any chance to the Sri Lankan batsman to stand on the crease. They got all out at the score of 108 runs, and Namibia won the match by 55 runs.

Ireland Defeated England

The second and most famous upset of the T20 world cup 2022 was Ireland winning the match against England. It was not the first time they had done it before.

England won the toss and elected to field first. Ireland openers Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie came to bat, and Paul fell early on Mark Wood. Andy And Lorcan Tucker made a partnership and helped their team to reach 157.

In response, England’s opener fell early, and captain Jos Buttler got out on a duck. Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali took care of England’s innings. When Moeen and Livingstone were on the strike, rain starters and England were five runs short. Ireland won the match by 5 runs with the help of the D/L method.

Zimbabwe Defeated Pakistan

The third and the biggest upset of the T20 world cup was Zimbabwe defeating Pakistan.

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first, their opener gave a good start, and all the batters contributed to the team. Zimbabwe scored 130 runs for 7 wickets and gave the target of 130 runs.

In response, Pakistan’s opener didn’t give them a good start, and their captain fell early. Shan Masood contributed 44 runs, and Mohammad Nawaz contributed 22 runs. In the end, they fell short by 1 run. Sikandar Raza’s magical spell makes him the player of the match.

Netherlands Defeated South Africa

The last upset was the Netherlands defeating South Africa, and it cost SA a semifinal. They were the fix at the semifinal, and no one thought SA would lose.

South Africa won the toss and elected to field first. The Netherlands scored 158 runs and gave the target of 159, but SA scored only 145 runs and lost the match by 13 runs. It cost them a semifinal, and they were out of the tournament.
