RSA vs ENG, 2nd ODI: RSA Seized the Series 2-0 Against England with 5 Wickets Win
In the second ODI of RSA vs Eng played at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein, SA won the toss and opted to bowl first. England, after being asked to bat first, played pretty effectively. After a shaky start in which they lost both of their openers during the first powerplay, Brook spearheaded England’s comeback with an impressive 80 before captain Buttler took control. Moeen Ali’s explosive fifty and Buttler’s innings-defining century partnership allowed England to score runs at a respectable clip throughout. Buttler, who stayed until the very end, made sure England had a solid finish to score 342-7.
In the run chase, Temba Bavuma and team have delivered a powerful message. Mind you, pursuing 342 is no easy effort. With the bat in hand, Bavuma himself directed the team’s efforts.
The opening pair got things going quickly, and Bavuma, who appeared to be in top form, went on to make his third ODI hundred. Bavuma hit 109 today to help SA stay in the run chase. Van der Dussen, Markram, and Klaasen all made significant contributions to the game so that South Africa never truly trailed and Miller had everything set up for them to win. With Miller’s 58 (37) and Jansen’s 32 off 29, SA chased down the 343 runs target in 49.1 overs and win the match by 5 wickets and capture the series against England. Following the T20 World Cup, England has continued to perform poorly. The two things that went well for them were Olly Stone’s tight bowling and Jos Buttler’s return to form. The series is now 2-0 and let’s see whether RSA clean sweeps England.
