South Africa vs West Indies, 2nd ODI: Temba Bavuma’s Century Went Into Vain; West Indies Won by 48 Runs

South Africa and West Indies faced each other in the 2nd ODI of the series at Buffalo Park, East London. West Indies won the toss and decided to bat first. 

Brandon King and Kyle Mayers came to bat and Lungi Ngidi opened the bowling attack. In the 4th over, Brandon King hit a back-to-back two fours and Mayers ended the over with a four. In the 6th over, Mayers hit three fours. In the 8th over, Brandon King hit a single, West Indies reached 50 runs and Mayers hit back-to-back two boundaries. In the 9th over, Mayers got out after scoring 36(26). In the 10th over, Shamarh Brooks after a duck. After 10 overs, WI was at 71-2.

In the 11th over,  Brandon King got out after scoring 30(29). In the 15th over, West Indies reached 100 runs. In the 23rd over, Pooran hit a four on the first ball and West Indies reached 150 runs. In the 24th over, Pooran got out after scoring 39(41). In the 34th over, West Indies reached 200 runs. After 35 overs, WI was at 211-4.

In the 36th over, Powell hit back-to-back two sixes and got out after scoring 46(49) in the 38th over. In the 42nd over, Holder took a single on the fourth ball and West Indies reached 250 runs. In the 45th over, Holder got out after scoring 15(20). In the 46th over, Akeal Hosein got out after scoring 2(4). In the 47th over, Odean Smith got out after scoring 1(3) on the second ball. In the 48th over, Shai Hope hit a six on the first ball and West Indies reached 300 runs. Shai Hope ended the over with back-to-back two boundaries.

In 50 overs, West Indies scored 335 runs with a loss of 8 wickets.

Chasing 336 runs, Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma came to bat and Alzarri Joseph opened the bowling attack. Quinton de Kock hit back-to-back two boundaries in the 3rd over. In the 5th over, de Kock hit three boundaries including two sixes. South Africa reached 50 runs in the sixth over. In the 9th over, Bavuma hit back-to-back two fours and got out after scoring 48(26) on the fourth ball. After 10 overs, RSA was at 78-1.

In the 14th over, Rickelton hit a six on the first ball and South Africa reached 100 runs. In the 15th over, Bavuma hit a six and scored a half-century. In the 17th over, Rickelton got out after scoring 14(16). In the 19th over, Bavuma smashed two fours. In the 20th over, South Africa reached 150 runs. In the 25th over, Tony de Zorzi got out after scoring 27(26) on the fourth ball.  After 25 overs, RSA was at 185-3.

In the 28th over, South Africa reached 200 runs and van der Dussen got out after scoring 8(11). In the 30th over, Tristan Stubbs got out after scoring 6(10). In the 31st over, Temba Bavuma took a single and scored a half-century. In the 33th over, Marco Jansen got out after scoring 17(14) and Fortuin got out after scoring 1(2). In the 34th over, Gerald Coetzee ran out after scoring 1(3). In the 36th over, South Africa reached 250 runs. In the 39th over, Bavuma hit three sixes. In the 42nd over, Bavuma got out after scoring 144(118) on the second ball and Shamsi got out after a duck. South Africa got all out at 287 and lost the match by 48 runs.
