West Indies Gear Up For the T20 World Cup 2023

While the start of the most anticipated cricket tournament in 2023 in South Africa approaches, star all-rounder Stafanie Taylor will return to the West Indies for the T20I tri-series, as the team prepares for a run at the Women’s T20 World Cup trophy.

Britney Cooper complete the team’s batting after returning from a back injury that kept her out of the England home international series. Taylor has returned to the lineup after being out of the England series due to a back injury.

Following a disappointing home series in which runs were hard to come by against a world-class English attack, their inclusion is much-needed. It has lost the previous three World Cups (ODI and T20), but this time they have built a match-winning team and are devoted to winning.

The West Indies will take on India and the hosts in the triangular tournament beginning on January 19, before meeting England again on February 11 at Paarl in the opening match of the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Considering that the T20I format is relatively new, leading selector Ann Browne-John believes that experience will be crucial for the team in order to be successful.

West Indies Chief Selector’s Statements and Vision

While announcing the team for the Women’s World Cup in 2023, Ann Browne-John stated, “Our batting in the most recent series was below par against a very good English bowling attack.” It is expected that with the return of several experienced batters, they will assist captain Hayley Matthews at the top of the order.”

“We have selected a squad that we believe possesses the necessary talent and experience to compete against India and South Africa.”

Fast bowlers Shamilia Connell and Shakera Selman have recovered from minor injuries to make the traveling squad. They join Chinelle Henry, Cherry Ann Fraser, and Aaliyah Alleyne to give skipper Matthews a variety of options on the field.

In early 2022, the West Indies played four one-day internationals in South Africa as part of their preparations for the Women’s World Cup. The team won one of four matches.

It is Browne-John’s hope that the team will be able to replicate the relative success of 2023.

“I am pleased with the team’s performance in South Africa in the early part of 2022,” she stated.

“We are confident that every member of the team will draw upon that experience in order to defeat the home team and India in this tri-series and potentially again at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup which will also take place in South Africa.”

As a result of the draw for the Women’s T20 World Cup, the West Indies will be placed in Group 2 with England, India, Pakistan, and Ireland.
