Ranji Trophy

Ranji trophy is a prestigious competition in the domestic Indian cricket which was started in 1935 and conducted annually. It is known as a red ball championship which has been conducted between multiple teams in different regions of India. The name of this cricket tournament was acquired from the name after Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji II, who was the first Indian to participate in international cricket.

Currently, there are 38 teams who participate in this tournament that includes 28 states in India with 4 union territories and two teams that represent armed forces like railway and services.

If we talk about the format of the match, it has changed multiple times over the years. In the 2021-22 edition of Ranji trophy, there were teams split into 8 elite groups of four teams each and Plate group comprising the rest. After round-robin tournaments in each group, the winners of top 7 elite groups qualify for the quarterfinals directly while the Elite group H has to compete with the Plate group winners in pre-quarterfinals. For the 2022-23 season, the format of the gameplay was rechanged to four Elite groups with 8 teams on side and a Plate group.

Duleep Trophy

Duleep Trophy was first established in 1961-62 as an interzonal competition but it has undergone many changes in recent years. From 2016-2020, there were 4 seasons hosted among three teams, India Blue, India Green, and India Red and the selectors chose the team. In the 2021-2022 edition, the tournament returned to its original format including 5 teams, North zone, South zone, West zone, East Zone, and Central zone. In the Duleep trophy, west zone is the leading team that has won the title 19 times.

Irani trophy

Irani trophy was first organized in 1959-60 to celebrate the 25 years of Ranji trophy. It’s a one-off red-ball fixture where the winners of Ranji trophy of a particular square off against the rest of team India. The remaining team India has the players from the rest of the first class teams.

Vijay Hazare Trophy

Vijay Hazare Trophy is a cricket tournament which is a 50-over follow up of Ranji trophy that comprises state and regional teams. The tournament was hosted in 2002-03 along with 38 teams that are placed in certain groups who battle on the ground and compete against each other in a round robin format, following playoff matches.

In this competition, Tamil Nadu is the most successful team, having 5 titles on their side.

Deodhar Trophy

Deodhar Trophy is another 50-over format game which is played among three teams - India A, India B, and India C. This tournament was first conducted in 1973-1974.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is the national level T20 competition which is hosted between the teams who are involved to play Ranji trophy. This is an eminent tournament in the domestic cricket world and acts as a feeder to the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament.

In this competition, Tamil Nadu is the most successful team, winning the title 3 times that includes its inaugural season (2006-07) as well.

Indian Premier League (IPL)
