Sri Lanka tour New Zealand, 2023

New Zealand is hosting the bilateral series in March- April for two Tests, three ODI, and three T20I and will play against Sri Lanka. In 2009, ICC introduced a law known as the Future Tour Program(FTP) for the test-playing nations that each of them will play two bilateral series in ten years. Two boards can play more than two series mutually. The Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand is part of the FTP plan.

Both will play two test matches, and it will be part of the ICC World Test Championship. New Zealand is in the eighth position in the Test championship ranking and is out of the race for ICC World Test Championship. Black Caps were the winner of the first ICC World Test Championship, and they will be looking forward to ending with an upper ranking. On the other hand, Sri Lanka is in third place in the ranking and is in the race for ICC World Test Championship. Sri Lanka needs to win all of their upcoming test matches to play the final of the ICC World Test Championship.

The three-match ODI series is the part of ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. The top 7 teams are qualified for the super league, and one place is empty.
