How Women's Cricket Started in India? – Women World Cup Cricket News

India's Women's Cricket Association was established in 1973. The West Indies and the Indian women's cricket team played their first Test match in Bangalore's M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in 1976. Two years after their debut in Patna's Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, they triumphed in their first Test match against the same team.

Soon after, further competition occurred. In 1974, Rajkot hosted the inter-university competition, while Kanpur hosted the Rani Jhansi Trophy, an Interzone limited-over-the-competition event. Under-15 and under-19 players competed in the junior and sub-junior tournaments, respectively. The winners of each zone competed for the Indira Priyadarshini Trophy, while the national champions competed for the Rau's Cup against the team representing the rest of India.

The executive committee was reorganized after the second National in Varanasi, with Mrs Chandra Tripathi and Mrs Pramilabai Chavan taking on the positions of chairwoman and president, respectively. These two women, together with founding Secretary Mr MK Sharma, were essential to the growth of women's cricket in its early years.

In 1973, the WCAI became a member of the International Women's Cricket Council (IWCC), and in 1978 the government gave it official recognition. The WCAI is still a separate organization not connected to the BCCI, unlike England, New Zealand, and other nations that have joined the men's association.

The first ODI between India and England occurred at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 1978. Their first T20I match at Derby's County Cricket Ground took place against England in 2006.
